The Arbutus menziesii, more commonly known as the Pacific Madrone, is a beautiful West Coast native tree with stunning exfoliating multi-color bark. It has large evergreen leaves and orange/red berries in the fall that feed native birds. It is drought tolerant once established, and is a great choice for dry sunny sites (good drainage is essential).
