Carex densa, commonly referred to as Dense Sedge is a grass relative native to SW Washington, Western Oregon and California. Like most sedges it grows in wet habitats such as wetlands, moist meadows and riparian areas.

This deer resistant plant is an excellent choice for the bottom of rain gardens and any other areas of the garden that are seasonally wet. Occasional summer water is recommended but it is adaptable to some drought when given afternoon shade. Performs like a clumping grass in the garden though it will self-seed and spread in moist areas if not maintained.
