Wild buckwheats are great nectar plants for native bees and butterflies and our native Naked Buckwheat (Eriogonum nudum) is no exception. Plants are a little Dr. Suess like with 1/2"-3/4" white pom-pom shaped flowers atop narrow stems up to 24" tall. The leaves hug the ground with the plant slowly spreading to about 8-12" wide over time.

This is the only buckwheat on the Portland Plant List and can be utilized to help fulfill the naturescaping requirements of Backyard Habitat Certification. Buckwheats are drought tolerant and require a sunny location with good drainage. May spread from seed a bit and makes a great plant in a native meadow for pollinators.
