Sulphur buckwheat is a common wildflower native to the drier regions across most of the Western US. In Oregon it is often found in the sandy soils of open pine forests East of the Cascade crest as well as in the Siskiyous of SW Oregon. Despite originating from drier climates with more porous soils, we have had success growing this very drought adapted plant on the wetter West side of Oregon. It will thrive in a site with full sun and good drainage (ie. on a slope). Showy umbels of yellow flowers will attract a wide variety of pollinators. Small evergreen leaves are silvery blue in Summer and often turn Purple in winter. If you want a showy plant that requires very little care Sulphur Buckwheat is a great choice.
