Oceanspray (latin name: Holodiscus discolor) is a very showy native shrub that will thrive in the hottest driest parts of your garden (after a bit of watering during establishment). In the wild it can be found growing in some really dry locations such as the sides of rocky cliffs where they don't mind baking in the hot afternoon sun. However, this plant is adaptable for use in other locations in the garden and can even grow in part shade. The sprays of white/cream colored flowers will attract native bees as well as butterflies such as the Pale Swallowtail which are known to use Oceanspray as a nectar source. Birds will feed on the seeds if you leave the flowers up after they are done blooming.
