This cute little evergreen grass relative is an excellent plant for a natural woodland garden. As a "Circumboreal" species Luzula parviflora (Small-Flowered Woodrush) is distributed throughout the northern hemisphere in moist shady forested areas. While fairly widespread in Oregon it is found more commonly on the West side, It can be seen in the wild around Portland and in the Coast Range and Cascades down into Southern Oregon and beyond. If you have a shady nook that needs to be brightened up with a plant that requires very little care this is a great choice with is glossy bright yellow-green leaves. It is compact and therefore easy to find a place no matter your garden size. In summer the seed heads will attract birds and other wildlife to your garden.
