Penstemon serrulatus is a great native plant to add a pop of color and for attracting pollinators to your garden. Commonly referred to as Cascade Penstemon, this semi-evergreen, perennial sub-shrub with purple trumpet-shaped flowers will feed bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Like most penstemons it requires good drainage and is drought tolerant. However, this species which grows west of the Cascade crest is more tolerant of our wet winters and clay soils than its East side relatives and will perform better with occasional summer water, keeping the soil moist but not saturated.
