Tolmeia menziesii, also known as Piggyback Plant, is a native member of the saxifrage family that thrives in wet, shaded environments such as the banks of small woodland streams. Its moniker stems from the miniature plantlets that grow in the center of its old leaves, allowing them to "piggyback" and establish new roots when the leaf touches the ground. This versatile plant makes for excellent groundcover in moist, shaded areas and is also popular as an indoor houseplant.
